Ready to carve out some ‘me-time’ in the Caribbean? We find out more about the Abundant Goddess & Yoga Retreats which will be held in Barbados, 8-16th October 2016 and 29th April-7th May 2017.

One of the busiest times of your life will undoubtedly be the period in which you organise your wedding. You have to be firing on all cylinders to deal with the myriad tasks demanding your attention, but even the most organised bride-to-be can start to feel a little lacklustre as the months (even years) of planning begin to take their toll.

Goddess Acumen. Mullins Beach edited

Lots of brides will take a spa break in the run up to the big day in an attempt to restore some semblance of calm and ready them for the busy time ahead. But Dr Helen Johnson, founder of Goddess Acumen (www.goddessacumen.com) has decided to go a step further with her recently launched Abundant Goddess & Yoga Retreats in Barbados which are all about giving women the space to re-connect with their inner goddess. And this is no spa-day, this is 7 whole days devoted entirely to bringing back your sparkle and unleashing those sleepygoddesses!

Helen’s retreats incorporate meditation, Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT) and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) within a programme of daily workshops and yoga classes but the most exciting part of the retreats has to be goddess activities. The 6 goddess archetypes are Athena (career and your potential), Artemis (your wild side), Aphrodite (love and pampering), Hera (your power), Persephone (letting go) and Demeter (taking care of you). The idea of the retreats is that these archetypes are metaphors for how we live our lives but we may only be tapping into one source, like Athena with our focus on work. We may also be struggling to tap into another, like Demeter, as we forget about ourselves in the frenetic wedding preparations.

Each day at the retreats is dedicated to a different goddess utilising the luscious surroundings of Barbados: surfing, Caribbean cookery and exploring the island with the goal being to wake up those goddesses that are dormant. Helen explains it as being able to plug into six power sources instead of just one and isn’t that just about the best start to married life there could be?

Accommodation during the retreat is at The Legend Garden Condos, a historic plantation lavished with coconut, mango and palm trees and home to a charming collection of boutique 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. The Legend is set on the shores of idyllic Mullins Beach on the island’s west coast which is often known as the platinum coast for its profusion of beautiful beaches.

And the outcome of attending the retreat? A revitalised, positive you who is ready to take on the next chapter in your life, embracing the significant changes that will follow. For 6 months following the retreat there is a schedule of follow up activity to support you as you integrate the new techniques into daily life.
