A lucky couple who met at a cheerleading class have plenty more to sing and dance about after winning the wedding of their dreams at the Celtic Manor Resort.

School teachers Nicola Horton and Jack Withey from Cardiff won a prize draw competition for a wedding worth £5,000 at Celtic Manor and are now planning a very special big day at the five-star resort.

They have already met the wedding team at Celtic Manor for a celebratory glass of champagne and to start planning a lavish ceremony and reception at Celtic Manor’s Golf Clubhouse in August.

Celtic Manor resortNicola said: “It was a complete shock to win because we had completely forgotten about entering the competition at a wedding fayre, so the phone call came completely out of the blue. We couldn’t believe it… I think we’re still in shock!

“It’s an amazing prize. We have been able to bring forward our wedding because we had been thinking we might have to save up and wait until next year. It’s taken a big pressure off.”

Host venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup, Celtic Manor provided the iconic setting for the wedding of Wales and Lions rugby captain Sam Warburton and his wife Rachel.

From the stately charm of the 19th Century Manor House to the breathtaking views at the Golf Clubhouse, and from the intimate luxury of the Hunter Lodges to the opulent chandeliers and spacious elegance of the Caernarfon Ballroom, the resort has ceremony and reception venues to suit all wedding needs.

Their own big day in August will continue a tale of true romance for Jack and Nicola. They bumped into each other, quite literally, when the pair clashed heads at the cheerleading class where they first met.

“It wasn’t the smoothest move but I lost balance and ended up head-butting her,” admitted Jack. “It did give me an excuse to keep messaging her to check she was OK and eventually I built up the courage to ask her out.”

Fast forward a few years, including the arrival of baby Max, and Jack more than made up for the clumsy introduction with a romantic Christmas Day proposal that could not have been smoother had it been choreographed by their old cheerleading squad.

Nicola said: “We’d just finished opening the presents and Jack made some excuse that he had to go and change Max. When they came back he handed Max to me and I noticed he was wearing a new baby grow.

“Printed on the front was ‘Mummy, will you marry Daddy?’ Jack even had the engagement ring ready in his dressing gown pocket - it was the best Christmas present ever!”

The expert team at the Celtic Manor Resort will be hard at work to ensure that that they plan and deliver a special day to match Jack and Nicola’s romantic story.

Celtic Manor Resort wedding co-ordinator Helen Glanville said: “This is the first time we have run such a big Win a Wedding competition and the response was amazing. It’s a prize that any couple would want to win and we’re delighted it’s been won by two such lovely people. We can’t wait to help them plan all the finishing touches to make their perfect day.”
