Owner and interior designer Shona Harper-Wilkes reveals to Vows and Venues why Lartington is the venue to be seen at. Oh yes, and just why it makes brides cry.
Built in 1635, Lartington Hall is a private and exclusive hire venue, nestled in 75 acres of romantic and beautifully landscaped parkland, providing a dream wedding setting. Wonderful all year round, there is so much space to enjoy, both inside and out. The very definition of luxury, Lartington is beautiful, refined and every element is of the best quality; from the designer furnishings to our exceptional food.

Lartington Hall is the perfect country house venue
We’re incredibly lucky to have a beautiful, spacious ballroom as well as a gorgeous but authentic Chapel too, which is rather unique! In addition to these grand spaces and our sumptuous reception rooms, couples and their guests can also enjoy Lartington’s 17th Century snug and snooker room - ideal break-away areas for fun and relaxation. Outside, the rolling gardens with their tranquillity and idyllic views, are perfect for live music accompanied drinks receptions, informal barbecues and nostalgic outdoor games.
We’ve taken a great deal of care to ensure the interiors work well with any kind of styling ideas – from shabby chic to boho, classic to contemporary! We have a fresh, modern palette running harmoniously throughout the Hall which means a couple’s theme can also flow seamlessly. Furthermore, we’ve focussed on enabling couples to get the most beautiful, timeless images possible through careful use of colour, placing of pictures and fabulous light- filled rooms, which are perfectly proportioned to give flawless photo opportunities.
‘Luxurious, tasteful and refined’ were our watchwords when designing the bedrooms at Lartington. As with downstairs, we selected all the fabrics and wall coverings from fabulous collections, including Mulberry Home, Jane Churchill and Zoffany. We matched the style for the room to its aspect and size, using a fresh modern palette and highlighting spectacular features, such as high ceilings and generous windows. As all the rooms are individually designed, couples have such fun choosing which ones they will use and how to allocate them to their friends and family – deciding between twin freestanding baths, hand- painted ceilings, sumptuous fabrics and comforting colours.
With stunning light filled spaces, stylish interiors and amazing period features, Lartington is the perfect country house venue. Yet it’s not traditional in any way. It’s wonderfully tasteful, decorated in a modern palette, with an exquisite ballroom and superb interiors throughout including designers such as Mulberry Home, Jane Churchill and Zoffany. As if things can’t get any better, they now have a chef with a Michelin star background.
We can see why Lartington has a 2-year waiting list for their winter as well as summer weddings. There’s really not another venue quite like it – how lucky we are that it’s in the north too.
