The days of mini sausage rolls and quiche buffets is long gone. Modern couples look for a more innovative and interesting approach to the wedding breakfast. Its not all contemporary though. Brides and grooms still want to cater for all tastes and age groups, so wedding catering is a balance of what will be traditionally popular, on-trend and fun!
We are still seeing a much more informal approach to the catering. Couples want a relaxed feel to the day, and a relaxed menu helps. The options are endless. You can go traditionally British with a vintage van serving mini newspaper cones of fish goujons and chips, add some continental flavour with pizza or even go international with a sushi bar, Asian food or posh kebabs. Something to suit everyone. Best of all, street food is hand-held, so you don’t have to think about cutlery or plates.
At Mosborough Hall the private courtyard adjoining the Wedding Suite is home to an outdoor pizza oven, which has proved to be a big hit at weddings. Guests can choose their toppings from delicious fresh ingredients and watch as their food is cooked in the wood-fired oven. Pizza is a brilliantly versatile choice when catering for a large group, with dietary needs including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free all catered for – and you can pretty much guarantee that you’ll be keeping your younger guests very happy!
Seating plans are key. Long tables are increasingly popular. They work well with a Mediterranean, garden party or bo-ho themed wedding. Think rustic wooden tables and bench seating draped in bright cushions and throws. Simple China milk jugs or metal cans filled with garden flowers and candles line the table, which is clothed in bright gingham fabrics or pretty, floral vintage linens. Long tables allow you to seat more people, encourage more conversation and give the opportunity for ‘sharing foods’. Platters of shared foods running along the centre of the table with guests helping themselves. It has a real ‘family dinner’ vibe and is perfect for a wedding day ‘Sunday roast’ feast; keeping the traditionalists happy.
And for dessert. Dress a dessert bar in the reception room with beautiful flowers to match your colour theme. Place the wedding cake on here alongside lots of other desserts for guests to choose from. Include cupcakes, coloured macaroons, pretty cake pops, fresh fruit tarts and rustic cookies. These are hugely popular in the USA and are being embraced here too.
And for the adults. A prosecco bar with a range of juices and syrups, so that guests can personalise their fizz. Wedding food at its best.
