Iceland cordially invites its customers to indulge in a slice of the royal wedding as it launches a limited edition celebration wedding cake, for one week only.
The handmade elderflower and lemon cake, available from 14th May 2018, will cost just £8.00 - so, at 66 pence per slice, it’s a fraction of the £50,000 proposed cost for the royal cake. But don’t delay, there are a limited amount of cakes per store*, and when they’re gone, they’re gone.
HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced further details of their wedding last month and confirmed that their wedding cake will feature spring flavours including lemon and elderflower.
Iceland’s two tiered, three layered, light lemon sponge is filled with elderflower buttercream, Sicilian lemon curd and delicately finished with shimmered chocolate peals – just as the Royal couple has requested for their own dessert.
London-based bakery, Violet Bakery has been tasked with creating the real deal but Iceland’s customers can toast the couple with a slice of the cake too.
Neil Nugent, Head Chef at Iceland, said: “We want our customers to enjoy the Royal wedding celebrations in style and what better way to do that than raising a glass of champagne to the newlyweds and having a slice of their actual wedding cake – well, kind of.
“The cake features everything the royal couple has asked for including a shimmery finish with chocolate pearls, light sponge and fragrant buttercream. I’d also recommend adding some wild flowers decorations to keep up the royal theme.”
The wedding will take place on Saturday 19th May 2018 at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle and is expected to be the watched across the globe by millions. The last royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton was watched by over two billion people – so grab your cake and eat it!
