Money saving tips from Natalie Lovett of Love to Plan
Lose the favours
Gone are the days of sugared almonds in an organza bag, and unless it’s food or drink related, your carefully thought out favours will go in the bin at the end of the night - so lose them altogether! To get a decent favour you’ll be spending in excess of £2 per person, which when based on the average wedding guest list of 80, is a cool £160 saving – trust me, your guests won’t notice that they’re not there!
Go seasonal
Due to the impending Brexit and resulting exchange rates, flowers are becoming expensive. I love flowers and still highly recommend that you incorporate them into your wedding day but be practical in your choices. Choose seasonal flowers – those that are in bloom when you get married. They will be cheaper as they’re more freely available, not only that, they’ll be more characterful and vibrant than other out of season blooms on offer, and they’ll smell divine too!
Also consider ways in which you can re-use your floral arrangements. Perhaps your ceremony arrangements can be transported to your wedding reception room, and bridesmaid bouquets look lovely (and last longer) when placed in theme matching jugs or vases – perfect for your gift table and top table.
Go out of season
Saturdays in Summer are the most expensive days in which to marry, they’re the most popular and therefore come at a premium price. Why not consider a weekday or a Sunday, and opt for an early Spring or indeed a Winter wedding.
If your wedding isn’t taking place on a Saturday, give your family plenty of notice and encourage them to make a short break of it. Ultimately, you’ll get more for your money and will have the spare cash to spend on a couple of luxuries here and there too!
Go for canapes and lose your starter
If you love the idea of canapes and a 3-course meal, but can’t stretch to both, consider having canapes and removing the starter from your sit-down meal. Weddings are a hungry business as it can often be 3-4 hours between a guest leaving their home and getting to the reception following your ceremony, so they’ll be grateful for some delicious canapes with their glass of bubbles...and they won’t need a starter when they sit down – a nice cost-saving winner!
