Congratulations, you’ve been picked as the Best Man. And, now begins the journey to the altar as your best friend’s right-hand man. But, don’t worry we have planned out everything you need to know as a Best Man, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.

The time has come, your best friend asks you to be his Best Man. Although shocked, it’s always best to ride it out with a man hug & a bit of male bonding. Its’s now time to swat up and learn far too much about suit cuts, tie knots & those dreaded pocket squares.

Best manRound up long-lost friends and distant family members & start organising the ultimate last night of freedom. Be sure to get creative with your plans. We now live in a time were its no longer acceptable to have a few drinks at the local. When it comes to the dress code you can either keep it classy or dress up the stag in the most shocking costume imaginable.

Act like it’s your big day to and visit all ceremony & reception venues with the bride & groom. This may seem pointless as they already have an idea in their mind, but try to be as excited as them. Now the venues are all sorted, it’s time to start thinking about all the run throughs and all logistical details of the big day.

Your main responsibility on the morning of the wedding is to be a human alarm clock & stay on breakfast duty. Get everyone moving - bacon sandwiches & strong coffee is a must for the long day ahead.

Be sure to organise classy cars from the groom’s house to the church. Give plenty of time. It’s customary for the bride to be late – not the groom. When you’re at the church panic will take over, and you’ll frantically pat down your jacket every couple of minutes just in case you’ve forgot the ring. Everyone’s seated, the bridges arrived and the groom is emotional. Job is nearly complete, time to pass over the rings. The newlyweds will lead the way out of the church & you should escort the Maid of Honour behind them.

Reception time

Be sure to take the lead with getting people to the reception. If people are driving, provide maps, or you may need to book cars or minibuses in advance. Be sure help round up people for each photograph, whilst guests drink and chat.

Finally, the time has come. It’s speech time, deep breaths. The first time everyone laughs, you'll relax and enjoy yourself and wonder why you have been this nervous for months. Now the speech is over with, it’s time to relax and have fun with guests. Let flower girls dance on your shoes and dance with the oldies for maximum Best Man points. Although your allowed to enjoy yourself, be sure to stay on watch for drunken mishaps. You don’t need to be the fun police, but make sure your good man doesn’t drink his weight in vodka. He’ll regret it.

The night has come to an end and it’s time to wave your best man goodbye, decorate the honeymoon car with the Maid of Honour. Keep it classy – step away from the Silly String. There is no simple rule book for being a best man, but its key to remember no matter how much of a good time you’re having, make sure the groom is having a better one. That’s the measure of the ultimate Best Man.
