The days of ‘Here Comes the Bride’ are over and couples are using a range of different songs to walk down the aisle, according to new research by Anvil Hall Wedding Venue in Gretna Green.

Anvil Hall, located in the country’s most famous location for weddings, is the venue for hundreds of happy couples each year. It sees the arrival of numerous combinations of flowers, theme colours, and musical choices to make the ceremony perfect.

Owner Heath Hampson has compiled the top ten songs that couples walked down the aisle to in the past year, and surprisingly, Mendelsson’s Wedding March does not make the list. It appears that couples are looking for something more contemporary or personal than the traditional tune.

The songs that topped the charts were:

2. How long will I Love You – Ellie Goulding

3. All of Me - John Legend

4. At Last - Eta James

5. I'm Yours – Jason Miraz

6. Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Israel Kamakawiwo?ole

7. Highland Cathedral - Royal Scots Dragoon Guards

8. Canon in D - Pachelbel

9. Amazed - Lonestar

10. The Secret Wedding – Braveheart Soundtrackcouples walked down the aisle

Heath Hampson said: “In the last few years we’ve seen an increase in the number of brides choosing to walk down the aisle to something less traditional than Mendelsson. This is interesting, considering the couple has chosen to get married in a location that is synonymous with getting married.

“With a new generation of brides and grooms, there is a big influence from television and film in people’s choices. Israel Kamakawiwo?ole’s ukulele rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbowwas featured in a number of adverts and A Thousand Years by Christina Perri was used in the Twilight soundtrack.

“At Anvil Hall, we’re always interested in what songs the couple will pick, and we’ve heard everything from Beethoven to Beyoncé. It all adds personality to making the big day perfect for the happy couple.”
