21st June 2017 – TravelSupermarket has revealed 66% of Brits felt under financial pressure to save for a honeymoon or mini-moon (a shorter or less expensive mini honeymoon). A further 22% stated the cost of a wedding put financial pressure on their families too, while 17% admitted money issues related to their honeymoon or mini-moon caused arguments with both their own and their partner’s family. Shockingly, one in thirty admitted they had to take out a high interest loan to fund their getaway.
Consequently, TravelSupermarket has launched the world’s first ‘micro-moon’, a streamlined, post-wedding package for newly married couples, to help ease the time and financial pressures of saving for a perfect post-wedding break. You can even apply to test it here!
However, the latest study uncovered that monetary concerns are not the only factor when booking the ideal honeymoon. When it comes to making the time to plan a honeymoon (on top of the wedding itself), 55% of respondents said they struggled to book annual leave. Married and career-minded couples looking to get hitched also confessed that they would consider shortening or cancelling a mini-moon or honeymoon because they would be worried about losing out on a promotion due to taking annual leave (18%), or are too busy to take time off (23%).
Outside of the office, 12% of couples stated that pet commitments would also cause them to cut short their wedding holiday.
With couples spending on average £1,082 on a mini-moon, in addition to their main honeymoon, a more affordable, luxury micro-moon alternative proved popular for 68% of respondents, who claimed they would gladly shun a mini-moon getaway in favour of a 24-hour break.
Designed specifically for busy and cash-strapped newlyweds, the micro-moon package (www.travelsupermarket.com/en-gb/micromoon) includes 24 hours in a luxury hotel, a bottle of champagne and chocolates on arrival, and a variety of other micro-treats, including:
· A Michelin-starred tasting menu, to squeeze in as much fine dining as possible
· Micro-spa treatments, such as a 30-minute stress-relieving massage
· A 24-hour dry-cleaning service for your wedding dress and suit
· A Hangover kit
· A speedy chauffeur service via motorcycle taxis
To test the world’s first micro-moon experience, TravelSupermarket is looking for newlywed couples – to apply to volunteer for a complimentary tester package, click here.
The submission criteria for the test couple states that wedding duos ‘must be loved-up’, should ‘occasionally stare romantically into each other’s eyes’ and must have experienced being ‘stressed about booking time off work’. As well as couples submitting themselves, they can also nominate other couples they think are worthy.
