• Only 1 in 10 agree with Pippa’s ‘no ring, no bring’ rule

• Like Pippa, 25% of recent brides have picked a friend over family as maid of honour or bridesmaid

• A third of brides say losing weight was the most important thing to them before their wedding

• Over a third of women want to lose a stone or more before their big day

Despite coming under much scrutiny for her strict rules at her upcoming wedding this weekend, one in 10 (9.7%) Brits agree with Pippa’s ‘no ring, no bring’ policy, admitting that much like Pippa and Harry’s girlfriend Meghan, they have denied a close friend or family member’s other half an invite to their wedding if they weren’t married.

According to the research carried out by protein brand STRIPPD, a quarter of Brits (25%) also support Pippa’s decision not to appoint Kate as chief bridesmaid and have picked a friend over a relative to be their maid of honour or bridesmaid. In fact, nearly a third of British brides admit that they want everyone to be looking at just them on their big day, not wanting to be upstaged by any of the bridal party.

It’s no secret that Pippa has kept to a strict workout regime and diet plan in the run up to the wedding which comes as no surprise given that for 31% of British brides, losing weight is the most important thing on their big day. Wedding shredding was voted more important than both the wedding cake (15%) and even their first dance (10%).

Brides-to-be aim to lose an average of 10.2lbs ahead of their nuptials, with some resorting to extreme measures such as extreme dieting (10%), stopping eating (6%) and diet pills (2%). Given the trend for a healthy lifestyle more brides are choosing healthier methods such as exercise (58%) and a healthy diet (75%) to shift the pounds. The biggest motivator for wedding weight loss is looking good in wedding pictures (44%) as well as knowing that all eyes will be on them on the big day (33%).

15% of brides cite finding the perfect wedding dress as the most stressful part of a wedding with many taking inspiration from celebrity bridal looks. The research by STRIPPD discovered that the top five weddings dresses of the last 10 years are Kate Middleton, Amal Clooney, Kim Kardashian, Michelle Keegan and Kate Moss.

It’s not only women who feel the pressure of looking good on the big day however with 20% of men admitting that getting in shape to look dapper in a wedding suit was the most important part of their wedding. Shockingly, more men than women (34% vs 18%) admit to using extreme weight loss measures to lose weight pre-wedding including extreme dieting (18%), diet pills (4%) and even restricting all of their food intake (12%).

It’s well documented that bridal pressure can often lead to ‘bridezilla’ behaviours, with 1 in 10 (10%) dismayed bridesmaids claiming they were forced to wear an unflattering outfit, just to make the bride look better. Ahead of her nuptials, Pippa has added to her ever-growing list of demands by insisting that guests bring two outfits to her wedding. The other most common ‘bridezilla’ behaviours British brides fessed up to include shouting at the photographer, complaining about the food , getting drunk at the reception and sending out dress specifications for female guests.

Prune Page, Chief Marketing Officer at STRIPPD says, “A woman’s wedding day is supposed to be the best day of her life, so it’s not surprising the pressure can build, especially with the amount of wedding blogs, social media and coverage of celebrity weddings. Understandably losing weight can be an important part of the wedding day preparation, but it should be seen as a lifelong commitment rather than a short-term fix.
