When planning how your wedding day will look, it can be quite overwhelming, from deciding on the overall theme to the details you want to include in your styling. Wedding stylist, Lindsey Hunter is an expert at styling venues, making them look spectacular, even with the simplest of décor.
Nature and rustic weddings have been popular this summer, but where do you draw the line when it comes to how much décor to use? Lindsey shares how you can add a touch of nature to your wedding styling using minimal details to create a beautiful ‘less is more’ look that will wow your guests.
An outdoor ceremony
Wherever possible, use outdoor space at your venue. For a natural themed wedding, there is nothing better than saying “I do” outside. The outdoors will provide a colourful backdrop and natural décor, which means you won’t need to do too much when it comes to styling your ceremony set up.
Find a romantic spot such as a large tree, next to a lake or a garden to have your ceremony. Add a wild arch made from twisted willow to get married underneath and add asymmetric flowers in your chosen colours for some additional vibrancy. Place floral displays down your aisle to continue the theme and to reflect the style of the arch.
Bring the outside in
Whether you are having your ceremony in a hotel, stately home or marquee, carry on your natural theme inside by using décor that looks as if it has come straight from the outdoors.
Decorate the entrance to your venue with large rustic logs and team these with several wooden and silver lanterns to add some romantic lighting when then day turns into night. Complete the look by adding the displays from your aisle for a touch of softness and to give guests a taste of what they can expect to see inside.
Continue the theme inside starting with the ceiling. Ceiling rings/circles are perfect for adding some colour and detailing to your reception space. Suspend willow circles adorned with foliage from the ceiling and add some pretty glass baubles for a delicate touch. These really help to add some character to a blank space such as a marquee or contemporary barn.
When it comes to decorating your tables, keep them simple. Add a subtle hint of colour to your tables by using grey or soft pink tablecloths. Keep guests interested to look at all your décor by varying the look on your tables; choose two or three different centrepieces to display. Use flowers and foliage for some and add natural hoops of willow on others to complement your ceiling décor. Display your centrepieces on large rustic log slices to complete the look.
Don’t forget to add some props and styling to other areas around your venue and reception space. Use old rustic doors to create a table for your wedding cake or to hold blankets for guests to use on chilly evenings, vintage suitcases make perfect coffee tables in chill out areas and old wooden ladders are great for creating a table plan.
Top tip: Reuse floral displays from your ceremony for your reception to cut down on costs and make the most of the beautiful flowers and foliage as much as you can. Or why not give them to members of the bridal party as thank you gifts.
