Get the basics out of the way first
In any engagement card, you have to remember the reason that you were writing it in the first place, to congratulate your loved one on their recent engagement! Say congratulations first, something simple that gets the message across as to why they are receiving this correspondence.
Make things personal
The happy couple will probably be receiving lots of cards of people sending their well wishes, often the message can be appreciated but lost in a sea of other congratulations. Choosing a card that is specific to the couple, be it a funny ‘in’ joke or a heartfelt poem, is paramount to letting the couple know you are thinking of them. Another great way to make things personal is to add a loving, sincere message, something personal to your relationship with the couple in question.
Add a photograph
Engagements are a great time to look back on fond memories, and remember the good times. Look through any photographs you have of the happy couple, and choose your favourite. Print it out and pop it on the inside of the engagement card, a really lovely touch that will bring a smile to their faces!
Make sure your timing is right
There’s no use sending a congratulations card months after the event has happened, whilst it’s still a lovely thought, the celebrations will have wound down and the happy couple are likely to be in the midst of arranging the wedding. Send your congratulatory card as soon as possible after the news has been announced, the sooner the better! The buzz surrounding the event will mean that the couple are thrilled to receive your love and best wishes.
Have Fun with it!
Don’t over think the situation, sending your love and best wishes to your loved ones should be a fun and wonderful thing! At the end of the day a couple you love are celebrating a special time in their lives, and that makes everyone happy!
