Euromedia sales executive Nichola Newton’s dream wedding had all the ingredients of a perfect day – until she tripped on her wedding dress and broke her leg at her reception. Nichola had married her partner of 10 years, Jonny Newton, 33, at the Park Hotel, Chorley on Thursday 2 April. They had cut the cake and enjoyed their first dance when Nichola decided to kick off her shoes and take to the floor again. She said: “It certainly wasn’t the best decision I’ve ever made. I remember my left foot catching inside my dress and down I went.” Although she was in some pain and discomfort, Nichola, who works at Chorley-based Euromedia Associates, said she didn’t realise at first how serious it was.

She since spent 12 days in hospital and needed surgery to insert a plate into her left leg to treat a long fracture down the middle of her tibia. She has also danced her way into the regional and national headlines with her wedding day tumble, that friends describe as like a scene from ‘Bambi.’

The best news is though, that although she and Jonny obviously had to missed their honeymoon – a special trip to Mexico. The travel company Thomas Cook agreed to rearrange the holiday for the couple.

This is certainly well deserved, after all Nichola’s been through, including surgery at Chorley Hospital on her 29th birthday! After counting down with Nichola to her big day – we’re now sending Nichola all our very best wishes for a speedy recovery – and a quick return to work!

Meanwhile Nichola is recovering at home – and she and Jonny are looking forward their honeymoon at the Hard Rock Hotel in Cancun, in September. “It wasn’t ideal but we’ll certainly have a barely believe story to tell about the day we got married!” said Nichola.
