Chelmsford based bridal boutique for the design led bride, Rock The Frock, has recently launched their first bridal collection, designed by their founder Karen Whybro. The collection has been heavily influenced by the designs of the 1960s and 1970s and features capes, trouser suits, ballooned chiffon sleeves alongside modern separates such as pastel lace bodies and crops. Karen, only 4 years ago, was a primary school teacher, who frustrated at both the education sector and how hard it was to find a wedding dress that suited her style, decided to quit to open what is now a hugely influential boutique, and is franchising across UK and internationally in 2018.

We caught up with Karen to find out more about her bridal boutique, brides and collection.

Bridal boutique new collection“The collection is perfect for the design led, free thinking bride who also has an ethical conscience as it is made locally here in Essex. A perfect style for a boho outdoor wedding is the Margot with its off the shoulder top, edged with crochet lace. Or for a city wedding choose the Nancy two piece with its racer style top and column straight skirt made from an ivory lace lined with satin. Appointments can be booked online via the website where you can try on the full collection, as well as exclusive designs from British and International independent designers including fellow local designer Lucy Can't Dance.”

“I am so excited and am already designing new looks for 2018. Rock The Frock was born from my own personal experience of being a frustrated bride desperate to find a dress that reflected my own individual style, personality and getting nowhere. I found traditional bridal boutiques depressing - a lack of choice and a general prescriptive style of what other people “think” you should wear on one of the most important days of your life. While some boutiques may have had a large number of dresses on the rails, the style choice was lacking - all ivory, all strapless, all with just one variation of maybe a different sash or a bit of ruching on one side. I really wanted to bring a choice for brides, giving them options for something different whether it be a boho hand painted gown or a wearable trouser suit”

The collection is available at the boutique in Chelmsford, Essex or visit their website.
